val is a professional Marine Science Illustrator with over 30 years of experience. she's worked with scientists, specialists, curators, designers, and writers to create aesthetic, accurate, and detailed illustrations for  exhibits in over 30 public aquariums, museums, and nature centers in the u.s. and abroad.

her work has also been extensively published in books and periodicals.
she designed, illustrated, and coauthored A Field Guide to Coastal Fishes: from Maine to Texas. This book took over five years to complete and contains 1,079 full-color illustrations. in 2016, a field guide to coastal fishes: from alaska to california was published. this book includes over 950 full-color illustrations.
